NATURAL WINE
Natural Wine comes from a no to low intervention world of fermentation. From the process of growing grapes, to fermentation, and then to packaging, there is little to no added chemicals, pesticides or preservatives. Producers of these natural products often use the landscape around them, including grapes (duh) native or explored in their regions, to create unique and raw wines. As goes for all wines – soil, weather, fermentation vessel, pressing technique (or not), and many other factors go into the final wines you enjoy. We take pride in carrying wine made by explorers, by creatives and by risk takers from across the world.

ABOUT US
Funk and Fermentation Owner/Operator Justine Powers has spent the last decade working as a Marketing/Sales/Service professional within the Craft Beverage Industry. While living in New York City, she frequented boutique wine shops and local wine bar hangouts. Around 2019, while everyone, including Justine, were shopping for A LOT of wine to sip at home… Natural Wine quickly became a hobby. As she began to realize her love for “weird” wines – she realized that the Buffalo area, specifically her in-and-out neighborhood of Elmwood Village, could very much benefit from a welcoming and casual Wine shopping experience.

The next step was moving back to Buffalo and finding the perfect location for Funk and Fermentation. A “for rent” sign hand written in the window of a shop in the heart of the Elmwood Village is what we now call home. An old stained glass shop/studio, fixed up and turned into a space for the community to come by and try something new. Jacobs Stained Glass had the iconic Elmwood Village storefront for 40 years prior. We just couldn’t take over without keeping some of the history intact – which you can come in and see daily, in the original stained glass lamps hooked into the ceiling and giving light over all of our bottles and friends who visit.
